Terminus Technologies had the software, the AI, and the vision. Their sensor fusion and perception platform could pull more than 100 data points from every object it tracked, in real time. The technology was proven and the parts were chosen: a LiDAR module, a thermal sensor, an optical camera, and an Nvidia Jetson edge processor. What they didn’t have was a product. npd’s job was to bring all four together in one enclosure that could survive outdoors, keep itself cool without fans, and look as good as the technology inside it.
What We Did
npd led the full hardware development process – industrial design, mechanical engineering, electronics integration, prototyping, and manufacturing readiness.
The core challenge was packaging three discrete sensor systems alongside an onboard processing unit into a weatherproof enclosure without compromising performance. Passive cooling had to be engineered into the form rather than bolted on. Every surface, angle, and material choice had to serve both function and thermal management.
We used our in-house rapid prototyping capability to iterate quickly on the mechanical design, validating geometry and thermal performance before moving onto the creation of a high fidelity functional prototype, working with external manufacturing partners.
The result is the SafeSight™ Outdoor – a tri-sensor smart city camera fusing LiDAR, thermal, and optical data in real time, with sub-centimetre spatial accuracy, 200m detection range, and 99.7% object classification accuracy. All from a single all-weather enclosure.
